Why studying italian in the third Millennium
Did you know that Italian
is the ideal language to create and express melody, poetry and rhyme? It
is notorious that italian language, bearer of a unique lexicological richness
holds a particular record: all its adjectives, verbs, adverbs and substantives
end in vowels. As redundancy in a language has a fundamental importance,
italian understanding is easier than in other foreign languages because
we receive such help in redundancy in masculine, feminine, singular and
plural, either singular than plural, of articles, adjectives, verbs and
nouns.
Italian language is not
only the literary one of Dante and Manzoni, which describes incomparable
landscapes, longing sunsets and sunny beaches, which spreads the art of
Cooking tastes and flavours now worldwide famous (as Pizza, pasta, parmigiano
and mozzarella), or that of music (Opera in particular), but it is also
the language of a highly industrialized country (5th and member
of G7) world leader in many important sectors, from fashion to agriculture,
tourism, art and so on).
It is a laboratory language,
a
living idiom that is capable to be renewed and enriched, year after year,
of new connotations, possibilities and cultural and linguistic specificities.
But it is also
lingua franca (official language) of Classical music
which
for centuries has been unifying musicians and composers in any part of
the world. Even if a few countries have tried to change and translate,
it is difficult to give in a word or sentence the right and unrepeteable
meaning of expressions such as: "Andante con moto, Larghetto, crescendo,
pizzicato, adagissimo, maestoso, adagio un poco mosso" and so on. Just
in this period Andrea Bocelli, the famous italian tenor, is having
all over the five continents a great success also as a pop singer, and
what is more utilizing willingly and above all italian language as media
of communication. In fact when it came out his last CD "Sogno" (Dream)
he declared: "I want to achieve success in american world with my own
language". And his dream came true, because he is having a tremendous
success in manv states, showing that good texts and melodies, united with
a language that is flowing and pleasant, can produce poetry, overwhelming
any linguistic barrier. And italian, the idiom of good singing (bel canto)
consents all this.
Italian creativity and geniality,
besides, combined with the warm charme, welcome and "simpatia" of its people,
permits that the studying of italian culture constitutes an irreplaceable
resource of human and professional growth for any foreign student, who
will be educated to the intercultural way of living, brought up to the
peace education, non-violence and spirit of solidarity. And what is more,
studying italian allows to take part to the construction of a greater and
greater Europe, of which Italy is member ever since its foundation.
A better way to love and appreciate Italy would be knowing its treasures, the richness of a millenary culture and greek-roman and mediterranean history. Therefore it is recommendable to first learn and speak a minimum of italian language, and immediately after to visit the Country with its historycal places, verifying and seeing personally how reality is always nicer than any description, how this small but great Country (Garden of Europe) has become so worldwide important.
ITA.L.I Study Centre fundamental
objective will be helping all institutions, universities and schools in
the world, either public-state or private run, to motivate an ever encreasing
number of students and people to the studying of italian language and literature,
not as a vehicular or necessary language (role held by english), but as
bearer of those mentioned and consolidated values which constitute the
ideal WORTHWHILE ADDED VALUE for anyone who studies foreign languages or
is directly coped with different cultures.
And the first activity
of the Study Centre will be the constitution of a worldwide survey and
data-bank of italian language presence, for each Country or State, in which
will be mapped, on one side, all schools, organizations and institutions
teaching italian at any level whatsoever
(Census),
in the other side all
teachers and professors (Register).
Therefore we invite anyone
connected with italian language and culture to help us, sending all names,
addresses and dates that are necessary, to establish and complete the permanent
Observatory of Italianistic in the world. Such a work will be carried
out in 106 States.
Please spread and propagate
this great and ambitious project. Thank you very much for your help and
cooperation.
